Given it is a true story, I was compelled to read. Despite the accounts being true as the story went on it found it got unbelievably far fetched. I can’t understand how Carolyn fell for all his scams and excuses when even she questioned many of his actions she still chose to jump to his demands. The trip to Nice without any money was very stupid given the previous experiences she’d had with him. I found it hard to sympathise with Carolyn as there was no in-depth emotions shown in the writing nor did she seem to care about anyone who was looking out for her. I may have felt differently and had more respect for Carolyn if the story accounted how she dealt with the financial trouble she was landed in by Mark’s antics, what happened to outstanding bills etc. Did she have to go bankrupt?? but nothing was documented so despite losing her money she still landed on her feet with a place to live, income coming in even if she was stuck up about receiving benefits and quickly shacked up with another man she knew little about- although I’m glad it worked out for her. I did find the end of the story a bit tedious and think it could have been summed up quicker.
Disappointed by the Narrative writing of this true story which I don’t think gives supports the victim in her plea.
