Well where to begin... I just could not put this down. Particularly the first two thirds of the book where we follow Carolyn while she is being manipulated by Mark. It made for fascinating reading but there is utter disbelief that anyone could fall for this. Carolyn points out throughout this book how this deception by psychopaths takes place and I did come to see how this really could happen to anyone.

The final third of this book discusses the lengths that Carolyn went to in order to get justice. This was incredibly frustrating to read. Carolyn effectively puts her life on hold while she pushes the police to do their jobs. Good on her for making the police make this a priority. Ultimately the ending is bittersweet because the only way Carolyn really gets a happy ending is for her to see a return of the money that she has lost and although she feels rich in other ways it is clear that she will always live with the regret that she saw all the money she had ever had, handed over to a fraudster. A lesson for us all here.

I did find this book a little repetitive at times so not a 5* read for me but it really did grip me at times!
