Honestly, I'm not a fan of true crime stories, so I was shocked to learn that "Sleeping with a Psychopath" fell into this category. The book was written by Carolyn Woods, who fell victim to Mark Acklom's manipulation and ingenious fraud. I am shocked at how some readers understood this book. I think this is an exquisitely written, true story about how some people can build deceptions and lie without scruples. The psychopath is usually known to be a serial killer, rapist, criminal of other violent stories. Some of us don't know or have forgotten that a psychopath is an empathetic person who doesn't understand feelings, so everything they do is seen from a different perspective. This book describes the work process of such a person. Showing a point from which you really can't move that easily and sometimes after taking one step, you have no choice but to follow.
Unfortunately, I have seen many opinions blaming the victim for being embroiled in such a situation and judging the whole story as unreliable, so probably untrue. Personally, I find this book significant, showing the problem from the other side and analysing how easy it was to manipulate the other person and build everything on a lie. Many analyses show how Mark's behaviour arose and influenced Carolyn and her subsequent movements. Believing in another person or relationship can change us in ways we can't even think about.
I'm not too fond of the part of the investigation, which was much more demanding than it should be, but the book is not meant to be enjoyed by me, but to make me understand that life is crueller and that we can't always have what we want.

When reading, you have to remember that this is not fiction, but an actual story, which I think should find a screen adaptation someday.

I highly recommend this book.

Thank you, ReadersFirst and Harper Collins, for allowing me to read and review this book.
