I don't want to discredit the author, and I really do feel for her and everything that she has gone through. However, I can not believe that Carolyn did not spot, sense, see any warning signs at all from the moment she met him! In my head, I was shouting "he's taken you for a jolly ride here!!", but still she gave him more and more money until the pot was drained dry!
Absolutely unbelievable, rather like the stories Mark was spouting as truth. I found this book so hard to relate to and even feel for the victim at times, it seemed to me that she had her head in the sand, that she really wanted to believe that Mark wanted her and loved her as much as she loved him. Why she didn't pull him up on the fact that he would never stay the night, time and time again, is beyond me.
Thankfully she finally got some of the justice that she deserved, but I guarantee Mark will be out in the very near future, hunting for his next victim.
