Bold and relatable beginning
The short, sensitive and snappy style of this author had me hooked from the start. As a reader, you get a grasp on the protagonist's character almost straight away, and I personally find her introspective nature and unconventional home life really interesting. If I picked this up in a book shop and read the first few pages, I'd be taking it home.
I know I would fly through this book, collecting relatable quotes and noting down facts about the Greeks and the origins of words as I went. It seems to be a modern, timely coming of age novel that will resonate with a lot of readers.
I also love the cover. Simple and striking, just like the prose.
