I loved all the characters this book, they are such a joy to spend time with. All the Thursday Murder Club members are very good at playing the part of unassuming-confused-elderly person and that means they can garner information for their own musings and insert themselves into the official police investigation in all kinds of entertaining ways! Not only are the Club members wonderful characters but I also found I had a huge soft spot for PC Donna De Freitas. At the bottom rung of the policing ladder, she dreams of a juicy murder investigation but has to settle for making the teas until she meets Elizabeth and Joyce. Using all her elderly wiles, Elizabeth manages to get Donna a key spot on the investigation team. The sheer bafflement when the youngsters realise they have been completely manipulated by an innocent group of OAP’s is joyful! The crime is really the secondary star of this book, ‘The Thursday Murder Club’ is driven by it’s characters. It’s just an added bonus that there’s a good old mystery too.
