I really enjoyed reading this. It wasn’t anything like I expected but I didn’t really know what to expect, if that makes any sense.

The novel centres around Debbie White. She lives on a dairy farm in Ireland. She lives with her ‘alternative’ mother, Maeve and her uncle Billy. It is clear that Billy likes to drink but spends a lot of his time looking up at the stars too.

To Debbie, this is life. It’s the norm. It’s how it is. However, she manages to get herself a place at Trinity College in Dublin. She tries to make friends but it’s all a little bit awkward.

Whilst she attempts to study - which in reality means going out, getting drunk and potentially sleeping with different people and not remembering, her mother is becoming more odd than usual and Billy is drinking more than ever before. The pull home is tight and loyal.
As a debut novel, I found this really well written and a must for anyone who is growing up.
