This book was a different kind of book that would normally appeal. I quite liked the simple but effective cover which really stood out. I think the lack of detail on the cover made me want to pick it up and read.
The story was based around Debbie, a kind of quiet and sheltered girl, having lived on a farm with her wayward mother and protective uncle. She is academic and excels at school and goes off to University which is a world away from her life. She embraces the new life she has found but struggles to cut the ties from the life on the farm. Whilst her mum becomes more troubled, Debbie find herself the adult and caring for her. Debbie grows up and finds herself and an inner strength she didn't know she had.
The story shows the bonds of families, even when the families may seem unusual to the outside world. I did enjoy this book and would read others by the same author.
