I didn’t know what to expect, it was very different but wonderfully refreshing.

It affirms that it is ok to be different, you can still adjust to new journeys in your life with time and acceptance of oneself.

Debbie, an eighteen year old who lives on a dairy farm is adjusting to college. She doesn’t fit in. Her honest, witty narrative makes the read enjoyable and relatable. Debbies family doesn’t make this transition easy for her; accidental death, mental health issues, attempted suicide are all explored throughout Debbies story. This girl shows real resilience whilst fearing her own future mental health issues, she doesn’t want to end up with her mum. Debbie finds release with alcohol, resulting in episodes she cannot remember. This highlights Debbie’s vulnerability despite her fiery side managing new encounters with fellow students as she knows she is different.
