I enjoyed this book and read it quickly. It drew me in and made me want to keep picking it up, get to know the characters better and see the story unfold. Ultimately it asked more questions than it answered, more a piece of art than a novel. For me personally it was less evocative of times and places than I expected, and in some ways it was a disappointing ending. It felt like it was building up to a dramatic twist that never quite came, but I think that's part of the artistic appeal of the novel and experience of the protagonist. The characters and certainly complex, and well developed.
I'd be interested to read more by this author, I loved the tone and style of writing. I wish I'd been reading it on a holiday round Ireland, it certainly made me want to visit again.
The cover is bold, and while appealing feels slightly at odds with the meandering tale told.
