I was looking forward to reading this book as being set in rural Ireland interested me straight away.

Debbie has grown up on an Irish dairy farm with her mother Mauve and her uncle Billy who lives in a caravan in the garden.

When Debbie is accepted to study at Trinity College her life changes overnight. She commutes every day into the city leaving behind her mum who is busy recording her dreams and her uncle and his drinking problem. Her friendship with Xanthe I found refreshing they helped each other to fit in.

Snowflake examines mental health and how families and individuals deal with it. Growing up and being accepted by peers is also portrayed very well. The fact that no one really knows what is going on in someone else’s life

The book was well written and very readable but I did struggle with the lack of conclusion. Snowflake is a good debut novel which explored many difficult subjects but I did feel let down by the ending.
