It was a little hard to get into at first but as soon as I got five pages in I finished it very quickly! The book shows the juxtaposition between rural and urban life and the differences between home and university. As a university student myself, I resonated and related to the character of Debbie and what she’s going through when starting uni for the first time and how strange it is to not know where you are or anyone around you at all. The author really captured the hardships of this time in life in the short span of the twenty-seven pages I read for the extract! I am extremely excited to read the rest of the book and see how the author develops themes already laid out, such as themes of family and change. This was very enjoyable and, as so many contemporary Irish novels go, will undoubtedly be a five star read when the book comes out. Looking forward to the release later this year.
