Snowflake was actually a really surprising read for me. It had so much more depth than I originally anticipated and I was pleasantly surprised.
Debbie has been sheltered from the outside world her entire life and attending college is a massive culture shock. She quickly realises there is more to life than her small town and that her family differs slightly from the norm. Battling with new and complicated emotions, Debbie tries her best to fit in, to seem 'normal', but then meets a friend who makes her realise that everyone around her is battling something.
Snowflake takes us on a journey of self destruction, mental health struggles and loss. Nealon does a fantastic job of depicting these serious topics in a beautiful way. Revealing layer by layer creates the depth that many books are missing.
The only downside I'd have is that Debbie is sometimes dislikable but maybe this was just to demonstrate the character development.
