I listened to the audiobook, and Louisa Harland was an amazing narrator, which contributed significantly to my enjoyment of the book.
Uncomfortable and messed-up family situations, as well as parental mental health difficulties, are all too familiar to me, thus it struck a chord with me.
Maeve's mental health issues are depicted in such a realistic manner that it is quite upsetting.
Billy and Debbie's relationship was one of my favourites.
The characters were all believable, natural, and likeable.
For a first novel, this is fantastic writing!
Characters you care about and a protagonist you want to succeed.
This was a coming-of-age novel that dealt with mental illness, drinking, and mortality with elegance and sensitivity. This truly struck a chord with me.
It was fantastic.
Perhaps it would be more appropriate to say that I adored Debbie.
