I was drawn In from the first page! The writing is really enchanting and paints such a clear picture. I enjoyed the humour of the first few pages but it seems the tone becomes more serious as the book deals with issues such as mental health and alcoholism.
Debbie is the narrator of the story. She is just about to start university after growing up in a caravan on a farm in Ireland. Debbie comes across as unique in a wonderful way but unfortunately that’s going to bring it’s challenges when it comes to fitting into society. I’m very interested to see how Debbie develops as a character as well as finding out more about her as her story unfolds.
The blend of reality with storytelling in the book is beautifully woven. There’s a sense of the magical and wonderful but at the same time the realities of life are so well portrayed.
This really doesn’t read like a debut, the writing is really very confident and this author is one to keep an eye on!
