Debs has a complicated life, she lives in a dairy farm in Ireland with her eccentric uncle Billy who lives in a caravan and on their grounds and also, her mam who has mental health issues.
Starting university is daunting as she will have to leave her family behind, grow up and start a new ways of life.
Struggling to fit in and make friends at uni she realises that she still needs her family no matter how dysfunctional they may appear to those around them.
This was a complex, multi layered novel on many levels and addresses many social issues and themes, mental health, suicide, loneliness, isolation and family.
The characters were in the main quirky, eccentric and just in a way kind of misfits in their neighbourhood and being honest from the blurb it was this that attracted me.
I related to that a lot and was instantly drawn to the way the characters were portrayed.
For me I wished it had gone on longer and had a more for me, conclusive ending, I wanted to know what happened next to the characters.
Also there were slight references to animal cruelty that made me uncomfortable but overall this was beautifully written, sympathetic and told with feeling and at times even humour.
I really did enjoy this.
