I have rated this book 4.5 stars on Goodreads but rounded it down to 4 stars. I found I could really relate to the main character of Debbie and I enjoyed being in her point of view. This novel is really about changes and coming of age. In the novel Debbie goes to Trinity College and feels like the odd one out which I think a lot of 18 year olds can relate to. As Debbie lives on a farm she is not used to city life in Dublin and has a lot of anxiety. In the novel we find out Debbie’s mother Maeve is suffering from mental illness and her uncle Billy is an alcoholic. The novel touched upon alcoholism and how in Ireland drinking is normality and everyone does it for socialisation which I can relate to. The prose was nice and easy to read. I found similarities between Louise’s writing and Sally Rooney’s which is a huge compliment. The cover of this book is nice too.
