Started good but hated the ending

This was a strange read.
I enjoyed it to start with, particularly experiencing how the main character's world opens up when she starts university, especially given how different her home life and responsibilities seem to be compared to her fellow students. However, that was all that stayed with me after I finished the book. The plot becomes so messy and I absolutely hated how it all ended. It's almost as if the author lost their sense of direction with how they wanted to end things and just plucked something out of thin air instead. I really didn't like the inclusion of the magical realism/dream states as it just felt so out of place - I would have appreciated it more if this had been the main focus of the story as then it would have been in more detail and with more background.
It had potential but then spiraled. I wouldn't recommend picking this one up!
