An incredibly moving and emotional start. Investigator Bailey Carpenter has a huge success on a court case, receiving recognition by the founders of the law firm too. During a break from the court case she recieves a message about a deadbeat dad who has resurfaced. When she goes to stake out the girlfriend to see if the deadbeat dad arrives, she gets horrifically attacked and raped. This immediately changes her life, she spends two weeks in her apartment where she is unable to leave or do anything. This book is incredibly well written, it is sensitive to how a rape victim struggles after the incident and makes me want to read the rest of the book to understand what happens to Bailey next and how she overcomes this.
