Set in Cyprus the authorities are meant to be trying to curb the underlying tensions between the Greek Cypriots and the Turkish Cypriots. But it is not that easy. People hold grudges, even though it has been fifty years since the separation. Nisha is a widow. She has found work as a nanny and house maid. She has a daughter to look after but for the moment she is looked after by her grandmother whilst Nisha works and sends back money for them both. She is all own since her husband passed away and so is the only breadwinner in the family. Nisha is from Sri Lanka but she finds that the agency she works for sends her to the greek area. She goes to work for a woman called Petra, her husband has also died and she needs to return to work so requires a nanny. it is here that Nisha stumbles on the trade of capturing songbirds for an illegal trade. But she finds that people are trapped in this way of life in order to earn money for their own families. It is not a job you can just resign from but Nisha tries to persuade one man to give up. A brilliant story that at times can be heart breaking
