I have only recently read The Beekeeper of Aleppo which I enjoyed immensely. This new book by Christy Lefteri was no different. It is a must read.
Songbirds tells the story of Nisha who, following the death of her husband, leaves her native Sri Lanka and her daughter to ‘keep house’ and care for Petra’s daughter in Cyprus. She loves both girls, one in person and one over the internet. Nisha falls in love with songbird poacher Yiannis and he, and everyone who know her, is heartbroken when she suddenly disappears.
Set in beautiful Cyprus this is a story of love, discovery and sacrifice. There are wonderful moments but there are dark elements too.
I loved the cover, the colours used, the songbird, the back drop of Cyprus. It will stand out in any bookshop. If you see it pick it up and buy it. You will not be disappointed.
It would appeal to any followers of Victoria Hislop’s work.
