After reading The Beekeeper of Aleppo last year, I knew that I would absolutely be picking up anything that Lefteri put out in the future - so I was delighted to receive a copy of this book from Reader's First!

The story this time focuses on the domestic workers of Cyprus, and how they are perceived/treated, not only by those directly around them but also by their country as a whole. The central character is a woman named Nisha who, for various reasons, is a rather elusive and mysterious character at the begining of the book, and I really enjoyed finding out more about her gradually throughout the story.

I will say that Lefteri's books are very gentle and slow paced, focusing a lot more on the descriptive side of things rather than just pure action, so for that reason they can seem difficult to get into at first. However, if you give these books patience, you will definitely be rewarded. Her writing is so beautiful and textured, a real pleasure to spend time on.
