7 years ago on a plane journey back to the uk from larnaca I found myself sat next to a Gentlemen who was a bird conservationist who had been working in Cyprus trying to educate the locals on the protection of birds. In all my years of travelling he was the most interesting person I have ever chatted to on a plane so when I read this book I had a knowledge of the poaching that was talked about in the book which really drew me in. I found this book really emotionally compelling, I have links to Cyprus so could relate to the setting, the book is beautifully written and I felt a real connection with the characters and even though the story is quite dark I really enjoyed it, the author really grabs your attention and you don’t want to put it dow. It is a very moving story with complex characters whose lives intertwine, a fantastic book so good that I bought the authors earlier book the bee Keeper of Aleppo
