Nisha has crossed oceans to give her child a future. Now she spends her days caring for someone else's daughter while her own waits for her return, half a world away.

This book juxtaposes wrath and huge privilege with poverty and lack of choice. A privileged mother employs Nisha to care for her child while Nisha has to leave her own far away in order to make enough money to send back to her own child. She sacrifices time and physical presence with her own child in order to look after someone else’s. This is both eye opening and distressing.

Suddenly Nisha disappeared and here starts the mystery, we learn of Nisha’s love for a man in her new home, her dedication to someone else’s child and her own history. It’s striking how little Nisha’s employer knows about her and the reader is pushed on both by the desire to learn more about this main protagonist and to find out what happened to her caring soul. Beautiful and heartbreaking in equal measure
