I really enjoyed the Beekeeper of Aleppo, so was hoping for something similar with Songbirds and I was not disappointed.
Based in Cyprus, Nisha, a maid from Sri Lanka, mysteriously goes missing. Her mistress Petra decides to take it upon herself to try and find her. Petra's journey takes her to places she never knew existed, opened up her eyes to Nisha as a person, a mother, and not just the live in maid.
This was a beautifully written story, with an underlying darkness.
The topics covered in this book are things that are happening on a daily basis all around the world and not just in Cypress/Greece.
Sometimes we only see people for what they do for us and not for who they are. We should take the time more often to really discover who these people are around us, and remember that everyone has a history, a past and is striving for a better future.
