This had me hooked from the very first paragraph. "Songbirds" by Christy Lefteri is about Nisha, a migrant worker from Sri Lanka who works as a nanny at Petra's. Nisha's reason for migrating to another place, which is to provide enough for her own daughter back at home, made me realise the sacrifices that our own mother's make inorder to provide us a comfortable life.
The writing style is quite simple but is weighed with so much emotions and the author has done a fine job with the vivid descriptions of nature giving you a clear idea of the set. I am very curious to see how the story will unfold and how the relationship between Petra and her daughter, Aliki will progress as it is mentioned that they do not have a close mother-daughter relationship. Overall, the short extract I read was very well written and beautiful. I'll definitely invest in this book once I get the time.
