After reading a watermelon a fish and a bible and the beekeeper of Aleppo I knew I needed to read this latest book and it did not disappoint.
This book is beautifully written and draws you into the atmosphere of Cyprus, you can almost see and hear the birds as you are reading.
Songbirds gives you an insight into a society where immigrants are treated very poorly and highlights the injustices. It is very thought provoking, as although it is set in Cyprus many of the same issues are present in the uk (to a lesser extent).
The characters are well developed and become more likeable as the book goes on. Some parts of the book are fairly predictable, however I didn’t feel that this detracted from the story at all. I will definitely look out for any more books by this author as she is definitely an auto-buy author for me now.
5 stars for me! 100% recommended
