Having loved The Beekeeper of Aleppo I was really looking forward to reading Christy Lefteri's new book, Songbirds. I was not disappointed. I found that the book was beautifully written and the descriptions were fantastic. There was a good balance of description and action so that the book didn't move at too slow a pace. The tension in the search to find Nisha left me wanting to know more and find out more about her life.

I thought that this book was a great way of highlighting the plight of domestic workers in Cyprus and the way that they are treated by both their employers and the country. I enjoyed the way we gradually found out more about Nisha's life and the way she was viewed through the eyes of others.

I would thoroughly recommend this book as it is both a breath taking story and an insight into the lives of foreign maids in Cyprus. Whilst the book was a gentle, slow paced book I enjoyed every chapter.
