I was really looking forward to reading this book, I loved the Beekeeper of Aleppo, and I was lucky enough to win Songbirds by Readers First.

This story was told in fantastic detail, setting the scene to a great mystery. Set in Cyprus, this tells the story of the disappearance of a Sri Lankan nanny – Nisha. It’s told from the point of view of her employer Petra and her boyfriend Yiannis – as Nisha suddenly disappears and they are left to solve the mystery of this disappearance.

I loved watching the relationship between a mother and her child unfold, the bond between a mother and a child cannot be broken. It is a very thought provoking novel, with Petra, the employer of Nisha, learning things from her daughter about the nanny that she never knew herself. Any story that addresses privilege is an important one, and I give this story five stars
