This book was a journey. The writing is so beautiful and alluring but it makes you realise some awfully true things about the world.

It's set in Cyprus, where it is normal for people to have housemaids. One day, a Sri Lankan housemaid named Nisha disappears and the police is not willing to help simply because she is not Cypriot. They seem to think its normal for housemaids to 'come and go as they please', but Nisha's employer Petra and her lover Yiannis knowing she would never take off without saying anything are really worried about her.

The story is mainly told from these two perspectives, and we get to see the professional side to Nisha, but also the girlfriend and mother who has abandoned her child on the other side of the world to provide income for her family.

Being based it truth, it really is an eye-opener on the hardship migrants face but also the terrible and racist attitudes of society against them. I knew I was going to love this from the first line, but it ended up teaching me more than I was hoping to take away from it.
