As the fourth in a series it starts off where the last book left, on a cliff edge. This may be why the narrative jumps around in time, which doesn’t run smoothly but fills you in on the back story. The main character, Argos, is hunted by his former brethren. His best mate, a squirrel cat, is more cat than squirrel. Nasty in with his speech, affectionate in his actions with his friend Argos. So the typical duo, there is a female character that doesn’t get fully introduced, but he probably fancies her. It’s ok if you’re into this kind of thing, for me I prefer Terry Pratchett. The story and characters are lacking a feeling of being real, which is good if you want to read a book like your watching a spaghetti western, just replacing the gun slingers with magic slingers. The character names are an interesting choice too, I would have liked to have seen Tesco, Aldi and Poundshop, perhaps Sparta and Athens to take the Greek route.
