This being the 4th book in the series still finds itself adding more layers to Kellen.
In this book it explores more about the shadowblack and what it actually is. The overaching story line from the very first book and in this we get more information than the previous three. Slowly unpicking the history of the shadowblack.

The writing style just flows so well and with the short chapters it immerses you into the story and feels so fast paced that you just keep turning the pages to find out what happens next! To me it felt like every chapter was a cliff hanger! Keeping me wanting more.

One of the themes in this book was to do with identity, who are the shadowblack if they can't return home? For Kellen it explored more closely who he is to who his family is. The bond between him and the squirell cat is actually really beautiful in this book and explores who in relation to him. I can't say more without spoiling this amazing book!
