The fourth instalment of Sebastien De Castell’s Spellslinger series was another a great one. I can never quite bring myself to give any of them five stars, but they’re consistent in their quality and level of enjoyment.
We follow Kellen, an outlawed mage (with very little magic), in his pursuit to evade his old Jan’tep clan once again. What I particularly like about the series is there is a different adventure in each book, one that takes the reader to another place where we meet new characters. The only downside to this is that, apart from the regular cast, we don’t tend to hear from them again... In Soulbinder, I grew attached to Butelios the bald monk, so will miss him!
As always, both the prose and dialogue is sprinkled with humour - something so many fantasies lack. A fast-paced read that I’d recommend! I look forward to continuing on Kellen’s journey!
