Having read the second book in the series I wondered how easy it would be to pick the tale up from book four. I need not have worried - it was like revisiting old friends.
Each tale works as a stand alone story. All the fun and familiar things are here - though Kellen is even more of an outlaw than ever as he's without his friends Ferius and Reichis.
He's seeking The Ebony Abbey - a place where he believes he will find the answers to The Shadowblack. Maybe he can unlock it's secrets and learn how to use it.
The Abbey is full of others with The Shadowblack but who can you trust? He learns that it takes many different forms but can he and his new friends work for the common good? With his father still seeking war which is stronger - friendship or family?
Very readable, great fun and super characters - it's been a very welcome return to Kellen's world.
