Soulbinder, the fourth of the series, is an adventure which Kellen spends alone, at first with the savage squirrel cat, Reichis and without Ferius, Kellen's mentor. in this book, Kellen discovers a place where the monks there embrace the shadowblack and uses it to protect themselves, recognised as the Ebony Abbey. There, Kellen is desperate to find Reichis, who is in the Golden Passage, and trying to escape, until finally, Kellen realises that the Abbey was where he belongs.
This escapist-fantasy is a must-read and I found it interesting. The plot was imaginative and so were the characters. Kellen is deceived by his little sister, Shalla, and declares war.
