In essence this is a story about Lois who has moved to San Francisco and taken up a stressful job that means she does not get to cook. As her job affects her health she orders food from a takeaway that includes sandwiches comprising the titular sourdough. Her life is changes when she is asked to look after the starter that leads to the sourdough.
