STAGS follows teenage girl Greer's sudden transition from a regular comprehensive school student, to an outcast in an elite private school with students that follow the traditional, rich-kid lifestyle of 'huntin' shootin' fishin''. Although it is somewhat of a stereotypical story line of a poor girl struggling to fit in with the elite, it takes a drastic turn when she is invited on a trip with some of the most elite students there are to a private country manor.
Whilst a lot of the characters have predictable personalities and the storyline takes some twists and turns that can be foreseen, the book definitely surprised me with its ability to keep me hooked. I ended up reading it in one sitting because of the impressive level of suspense that it contained.
As far as thrillers go, this one is as dark and twisted as one could hope, and it progressed beyond what I predicted into a story in which I no longer felt I could trust anyone, nor could I foresee the ending.
I will definitely be reading more of Bennett's books and would highly recommend this to anyone that likes dark YA thrillers.
