Hurley proves to be a master of mood. Just like in The Loney, the characters and the setting melt in something powerful that adds up to more than their mere sum. The reader is thrown into a deep sense of longing, one of a recent past that is still too present. We are all waiting for something to happen in the future, something to let us move on from the past, but we all know that won't happen very soon. But still, we wait for it.
The style is precious, highly sophisticated. So much, actually, that I had to use my vocabulary more than once! Still, a very enjoyable read. I can't wait to read the rest of the novel!
