Certainly an intriguing start to a novel. I have to admit the opening paragraphs did put me off somewhat - rather flowery prose to describe a landscape is something that leaves me cold. Fortunately the rhythm of the writing soon settles down to a far more conversational tone. I like a book to feel like it is being read to me or told to me rather than I am in the act of reading.

The dialogue, so far, is clean and precise and has a good smack of authenticity. You can feel the characters through the cadence of their speech - no mean feat that one.
