For me, the story was the least important part. I think this author could write a shopping list and make it interesting because of the beautiful way he uses language to describe the everyday.
The story, however, is captivating and I read it in one sitting. It is dark and foreboding with a wonderful sense of atmosphere. The author chose the setting for the story well and creates the most wonderful images, with snow being described as "crumbled pieces of cumulus". The time of year and the weather have been used to great effect in adding to the mood of the storyline.
