I do not normally read this type of book but I ended up enjoying immensley. The story is centered around two parents, Richard and Juliette, who are learning to cope with the death of their troubled son Ewan. This book was insanely creepy at parts and definitley a bit twisted-which really worked. The characters were so well written, I had a clear understanding of who each one was. The setting aswell, starve acre, the village and the woods just beyond, was incredibly well written, I could picture everything perfectly and felt myself getting sucked into the world. At the start of the book I wasn't sure I was going to enjoy it as I was not used to Andre Michael Hurley's writing style but I ended up growing to love it. Although some parts were a little boring nearer the start of the book, the plot kept me on my toes, moving in unexpected directions. I'm sure that no reader would be able to tell where the story was going to end up-and of course the ending itself was very chilling. I definitley recommended this book if you are a fan of dark and disturbing gothic novels. This book is perfect to curl up with in the dark of winter and just immerse yourself in the world of Starve Acre.
