Starve Acre, even the title sounds dark, eerie, cold, but this is the home of Richard, Juliette and their son Ewan. The land around is full of legends and folklore, tales of a legendary oak, has Richard digging his land looking for it.
Life is good, until the death of Ewan, then things go from bad to worse, Juliette is convinced she can see and hear Ewan, and is so desperate for Richard to believe her, she invites a group of local occultists to their home.
Though only a slim novel, Andrew Michael Hurley has managed to build the fear, with each turn of the pages, you can almost feel and taste the cold, as it digs deep into your very soul.
Having read his first book, (I have the second novel to read) I knew I was in for a treat, but the ending just blew me away, I actually shuddered as I read the last line..
