This supernatural thriller left me feeling very unsettled. Elements of the plot have stayed with me and often send a shiver down my spine when I'm walking the countryside on a breezy day.
At first I wasn't sure how much of the story was happening in the minds of the main characters as they battled the searing grief of losing their only child.
Reading on, the story twists into the supernatural as the father uncovers the bones of a hare in the field opposite their home and what happens after that is breathtaking in its eerie, creeping, all-consuming horror.
In a world of literature where it's difficult to imagine a really original take on a gothic horror, the author manages to do just that. I've never read anything quite like it. For an intensely disturbing read on a dark winter evening, I can think of no better book but - be warned - this story might just end up haunting you for longer ........
