From the opening I was completely absorbed by the chilling winter air that sets the tone of the book. It felt like the type of read to sit under a blanket and devour. I’m intrigued, absorbed and fascinated by the characters and how they are going to weave through their journeys of grief. The details which hooked me were at the start of the sister’s arrival and actually the fact that behind her green two-piece she probably knows her sister best. The sounds are already haunting in the novel - from the differing sounds of the tractors and their identities to the sound of possible life still in the house in the clinical preserved space that Juliette still inhabits. I’m intrigued to know what happened to Ewan and the connection with the tree. I’m hooked... looking forward to finding out. Modern quality gothic storytelling which has hooked me from the start.
