This is a relatively quick read at 240 pages and one I've got to the end of and can't really make my mind up about. It leaves almost as many questions unanswered as it does resolved.
In a nutshell we examine the life of Richard and Juliette in the aftermath of their 5 year old son, Ewan's, death.
Juliette is not coping at all well and each has retreated into their own grief, using their own coping mechanisms. However it seems that it's not just grief that is stalking their home. Something is not quite as it should be and the more we look back at Ewan's life it becomes clear that there were some very disturbing aspects to this young child's personality.
All the answers lie in the field next to the house, which Richard is slowly excavating. However perhaps it's better to let sleeping dogs lie - instead he's opening the door to a presence that has haunted and influenced the village for many many years.
This book is a real slow burn and not much actually happens but it is seriously creepy and ends leaving the reader to draw a lot of their own conclusions as to what might happen next.
