I was drawn to this book by the somber but beautiful artwork on the cover. I hadn’t yet read anything by this author but having discovered Starve Acre, I’m very glad I now have! This story has a very sad background, the death of a child and the parental struggle to process, manage and move on from the shock and grief. This book beautifully depicts how Juliette and Richard deal with this and try to move forwards. Their house, whilst sounding beautiful, is not all that it seems and there are secrets and a past to go with it. I found this a great read as we head into the darker months. Whilst it may not automatically appeal due to the difficult subject matter, it is very well written and perfect to read in front of the fire with a nice warm cuppa!
