The stark cover is very eye catching although gives little away, that said the cover certainly fits the tone of this book which is dark and haunting. The overall tone of the book is quite bleak and the story is told in a factual rather than emotional tone despite the obvious distress that the death of their son had on Richard and Juliette. Although the main story takes place over a very short time frame the flashbacks to their son revealed a troubled child and this weaves well within the story. Although both Richard and Juliette’s coping mechanisms seem very distant and unrelated the author has done an unbelievable job of intertwining the effects of their actions. Overall, despite the darkness of the story, I found this an easy book to read and follow although finishing it near bedtime was possibly unwise!
