This was a short read. A creepy horror type read. Not an in your face horror; the boogyman is always just out of sight. Richard and Juliette live in a house called Starve Acre with their son Ewan. Through two narratives running concurrently we find that Ewan has a troubled childhood; but is it him or is it some outside force? We also learn about the field beside the house where once stood an large oak tree where executions took place. The author weaves these two narratives together building the tension and makes the reader want to glimpse what is just out of sight. A superb twist ends what is a superb Halloween novel. Though it can be read any time or season of the year. I urge you to give this book a try.
