Starve Acre by Andrew Michael Hurley has to be one of my favourite reads from the past month. I purchased the book originally because I liked the cover and I'm so glad I picked it up.

Starve Acre follows the couple Richard and Juliette Willoughby and how they are trying to overcome the grief of losing their five year old son Ewan. In the book you see how differently grief has affected Richard and Juliette  You see Richard trying to keep Ewan out of his mind by digging in the field opposite their house in search of a legendary oak tree. Meanwhile Juliette is convinced that Ewan is still living there in some form and seeks the help of the Beacons, a group who seem to be involved in the occult to try and connect with Ewan.

There were lots of strange goings-on in throughout Starve Acre which I really enjoyed. My only criticism is that the book was too short for my liking, I really wish it was longer. Andrew Michael Hurley is an extremely talented writer and I will definitely be picking up his other work.
