I really don't know whether I like this book or not, it is quite a short book, with a bizarre conclusion. The book covers the aftermath of the death of a child (Ewan) and how his parents have dealt with it, in their own individual ways. Richard, the father, seems to throw himself into his work - digging in the field opposite their house looking for the relics of an ancient tree. Whereas Juliette, the mother, is inconsolable spending most of her time in Ewan's room where she retreats further into her own world, convinced that she can still feel Ewan's presence. Juliette eventually seems to find some solace with the help of some occultists known as the Beacons, after which her attitude totally changes. The book doesn't actually deal with grief, per se, it is much more occult and bizarre, but it is well written.
